Scale Any Recipe
The quick and accurate way to plan food and beverage quantities. Brought to you by Xusione.
One ingredient per line: Amount, Unit, Ingredient.
Add ingredients and set Serves / Scale To — your batch quantities appear here as you type.
One Ratio Does All The Work
Serves is how many servings the recipe makes as written. Scale To is how many you actually need. Every ingredient is multiplied by one against the other, so the proportions hold however far you push the batch.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I scale a recipe up or down?
Enter the ingredients as the recipe writes them, set Serves to what it already yields and Scale To to what you need. BatchWiz scales every amount by that ratio as you type, converting the results into your preferred units if you like.
What if the recipe doesn't say how many it serves?
Leave Serves at 1 and treat your amounts as one portion, Scale To then simply becomes your multiplier. If the recipe makes a batch rather than portions, estimate the servings it yields and use that; the ratio is what matters, not the exact wording.
Should I scale by weight or by volume?
Weight, wherever you can. A cup of flour swings by 20% with how it's packed, while 125 g is 125 g every time, and at ×12.5 that drift becomes kilograms. The Convert tab translates cups to grams for common ingredients.
Do strong flavours scale in a straight line?
Not always. Chilli, bitters, saffron, smoke and strong spices tend to read louder in a big batch. Scale them to about three-quarters of the calculated amount, taste at full volume, then work up.
Do cooking times scale with the batch?
No, ten times the liquid doesn't take ten times as long. Reductions, infusions and chilling follow the vessel and its surface area, so keep tasting instead of trusting the clock.
Is BatchWiz free?
Yes, and there's no account. Everything runs in your browser and your recipes stay on your own device.
Does it work offline?
Yes. BatchWiz is a Progressive Web App, so once loaded it keeps working without a connection and can be installed to your home screen.
Can I save and reuse recipes?
Save a recipe to a file and load it back later, append one recipe onto another, or export the scaled batch as a CSV. Whatever you're working on also autosaves as you type.
Which units can it handle?
Volume (gallons, quarts, pints, cups, ounces, tablespoons, teaspoons, millilitres, litres, drops), weight (grams, kilograms, pounds), and discrete count units like bottles, cans, bunches, sprigs and dashes, which stay whole rather than converting.
